Overton ISD Pre-K teacher, Crystal Merritt joined a very select group today. She was recognized as one of 7 new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) through Region 7 ESC. She is the first OISD teacher to achieve this certification. Only 3% of teachers across the nation can claim this recognition, and currently only 0.3% in Texas. Overton ISD is so very proud of Ms. Merritt, and our staff and students are so blessed by her. Congratulations Ms. Merritt; You Inspire Us All!

Because it is unusual for us to have emergency vehicles at the school, we did not want parents to be alarmed. All students and staff are fine and the school day is continuing smoothly.

After a thorough investigation by SRO, Michael Gayton and other Officers with Overton PD, the precautionary lockdown (initiated at 8:10am) has been cleared. It was determined that the sound was from off campus, and there was no threat to OISD students or staff.

At approximately 8:10am, a teacher reported what sounded like possible gunfire from outside the building. OISD is on a precautionary lockdown and our SRO is investigating. Students and staff are safe; we will update when more information is available.
