Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back!
As we return from the break, we will enter a unique stretch of our calendar. To support STAAR testing and make up for time missed earlier this semester, school will be in session for four consecutive Fridays—April 10th through May 1st.

Overton ISD Closure – Wednesday, April 1
Due to a predicted water outage needed to repair damaged pipes, Overton ISD will be closed on Wednesday, April 1. Classes will resume as normal on Thursday, April 2.
This closure is necessary due to the impact a water outage would have on basic operations, particularly in meeting the bathroom and hygiene needs of our youngest students, as well as our ability to safely prepare meals for all students.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. We are grateful to the City of Overton for their hard work in addressing this issue and for providing advance notice, which allowed us to plan accordingly.

We are incredibly proud of our Overton ISD One Act Play students for their outstanding performances at the District contest on March 25th at Panola College—and for advancing to the Bi-District contest on March 27th!
This year’s production, A Thousand Cranes, tells the powerful and moving true story of Sadako Sasaki, who was just two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Our cast and crew delivered a heartfelt and compelling performance, bringing this important story to life with grace and excellence.
Congratulations to our award recipients!

We are proud to recognize four of our outstanding Overton ISD Ag Mechanics/Welding students—Brayden Spiecher, Mason McMillan, Aiden Self, and Carter Smith—for representing our district at the Dragon Classic Build-Off welding competition hosted by Nacogdoches High School!
This competition challenged teams to collaborate on a 4-man table fabrication project, putting their skills, precision, and teamwork to the test. For Brayden, Mason, Aiden, and Carter, this marked their very first welding competition—and they rose to the occasion with determination and pride.
While this may have been their first time competing, it certainly won’t be their last. These young men are already looking forward to future competitions and continuing to grow in their craft.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work, willingness to step out of their comfort zone, and the way they represented Overton ISD. The future is bright for our welding program—and it’s a great day to be a Mustang!

💚 Welcome Back, Officer Gaytan! 💚
We’re happy to share that Officer Gaytan has returned to Overton ISD on a full-time basis. His temporary, part-time patrol assignment with Overton PD—due to a staffing shortage—has ended, and we’re excited to have our beloved SRO fully back on campus.

It’s a great day to be a Mustang! 🐎💚

📅 Important Calendar Update – Friday, February 6
Due to our recent weather-related school closure, Overton ISD must make up two regular attendance days to meet TEA instructional minute requirements. Our goal is to make up these days during the school year on previously non-attendance days, rather than extending the school year.
As a result, this coming Friday, February 6, will be a regular, full attendance school day for all students, with normal start and end times.
🚌 All bus routes will run as normal
🍽️ Breakfast and lunch will be served as on any regular school day
📚 This is a regular school day in all respects, with full instruction and attendance taken
The second make-up day will be Friday, May 1, which was previously designated as a flex day. More reminders will be shared as that date approaches.
Thank you for your continued flexibility and support as we work to keep our calendar on track and avoid extending the school year. It’s a great day to be a Mustang! 💚🐎

Overton ISD will return to school tomorrow, Thursday, Jan 29th on a normal schedule.
While we understand temperatures may drop below freezing again tonight, the sunshine and higher temperatures this afternoon have made a significant improvement in thawing and clearing roadways across our area.
As always, please travel safely. We look forward to seeing our students and staff back at school in the morning.
It’s a great day to be a Mustang!

School Update – Wednesday, January 28
While we had anticipated today’s higher temperatures would clear road conditions, overcast skies and lower-than-forecast temperatures have left many county and rural roads with treacherous conditions. This is compounded by staff and students who travel from surrounding communities where conditions are even worse.
Although temperatures are expected to reach the 50s tomorrow, freezing conditions will linger long enough to make a late start unfeasible.
For these reasons, and to ensure the safety of our students and staff, Overton ISD will be closed on Wednesday, January 28.
This will be a make-up day of attendance, and the date will be scheduled later in the semester.
Classes will resume on Thursday, January 29, at normal times.
Additionally, Varsity Basketball games at New Summerfield have been moved to Thursday night. MS games will still be played at home. JV Boys may be rescheduled.

🚨 Overton ISD Closed – Tuesday, January 27 🚨
Due to continued concerns with road conditions, overnight refreezing, and power outages in surrounding areas, Overton ISD will be CLOSED on Tuesday, January 27.
Many rural and shaded roads are expected to remain icy, and safety remains our top priority for students and staff—especially those traveling from surrounding communities.
📅 Important Schedule Updates:
🏫 School will resume on a normal schedule Wednesday, January 28
🏀 Tuesday’s basketball games have been moved to Wednesday
🕛 Friday, February 6 will be an early-release, regular attendance day for all students (previously scheduled as an enrichment day)
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Please stay safe and warm.
It’s a Great Day to be a Mustang. 🐎💚
