At Overton Elementary, the safety of our students is always our top priority. To help us ensure a safe and smooth dismissal process, we ask families to follow these procedures:
Walking to and from School
Students younger than 4th grade may not walk to or from school unless accompanied by an older sibling.
This policy helps us make sure that our youngest children are never traveling alone.
Car Line Procedures
For everyone’s safety, all student pick-up and drop-off takes place through the car line.
In the past (prior to 2020), parents could walk up to pick-up and drop-off areas. However, this made it very difficult to safely identify and monitor visitors during these busy times.
Like many other districts, Overton ISD now uses the car line as the standard procedure to protect all students.
Special Circumstances
We understand that unexpected situations can arise. If you don’t have access to a vehicle on a given day, please let us know, and we’ll work with you to make temporary arrangements.
Efficiency of the Car Line
The first few days of school are always the slowest, as everyone is learning the routine.
Once things settle in, our afternoon car line typically takes about 15 minutes. With dismissal at 4:00 p.m., nearly all students are picked up by 4:15 p.m.
Working Together for Safety
We know that the car line may feel less convenient at times, but it is one of the most effective ways we can protect our students and ensure that each child goes home safely. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership in helping us keep Overton Elementary a safe place for all children.
