On Monday, August 11, 2025, Deputy Director for the Region 7 Educational Service Center, Dr. Drew Howard, officially recognized the Overton ISD Board of Trustees as the Region 7 School Board of the Year.
This prestigious honor highlights the board’s leadership, vision, and commitment to maximizing student opportunity and preparedness for life. Overton ISD’s trustees were one of only ten boards across the state identified for the Lone Star Governance Grant. Their consistent focus on student outcomes and adult priorities continues to distinguish them as leaders in school governance.
Dr. Howard commended the board during the presentation, saying:
“Thank you for your focus on improving the outcomes of every Overton ISD student every day! Well deserved.”
Superintendent Larry Calhoun also praised the trustees, stating:
“Our board sets the tone for everything we do at Overton ISD. Their commitment to students and staff is unwavering, and this recognition affirms what our community already knows — that we are blessed with a board whose leadership is second to none.”
The Overton ISD Board of Trustees will be honored as a Regional Honor Board at the upcoming txedcon25 TASA/TASB Convention in September. This recognition not only celebrates their collective efforts but also affirms their dedication to making Overton ISD a great place to live, work, and learn.
