Program Description / Purpose
The Mustang Student Ambassadors are an exceptional group of Overton ISD high school students selected to represent both their school and the district throughout the community. Serving as liaisons between the student body, district leadership, and the public, these motivated juniors and seniors reflect a wide range of student interests and perspectives. They model dedication to academics, athletics, and service, while actively demonstrating leadership among their peers.
Student Ambassadors are nominated by high school principals, teachers, and counselors, and commit themselves to the expectations of the role. They meet monthly with the District Superintendent and leadership team to discuss current initiatives, district news, and opportunities for improvement.
Ambassadors provide valuable insight by sharing challenges faced by students and bringing forward concerns collected from their peers. They are encouraged to propose ideas for new programs, improvements, and activities—all aimed at fostering a school culture where every student feels a sense of belonging, ownership, accountability, and pride. The Mustang Student Ambassadors fulfill two primary roles:
Advocate for the student body—representing student interests in district planning and decision-making.
Serve as positive liaisons—communicating district plans and initiatives to the student body and the community.
In addition, Ambassadors represent Overton ISD at district events and community celebrations, serving as welcoming hosts and enthusiastic participants in activities that strengthen the connection between school and community.
What is a Student Ambassador?
A Student Ambassador is a student leader who represents the diversity and spirit of Overton ISD. Ambassadors serve as liaisons, advocates, and positive spokespersons for their school and district—modeling leadership, responsibility, and a commitment to making Overton ISD an engaging place to learn and grow.
Student Ambassadors are expected to demonstrate or develop strong leadership skills, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and dedication to OISD’s mission. They should also exhibit active decision-making abilities, the capacity to motivate others, and a collaborative team approach.
Through their service, Student Ambassadors gain the privilege of meeting new people, developing valuable skills, and working alongside district leaders to better understand Overton ISD’s programs, operations, and opportunities for improvement.

Social Media Ambassadors
Mustang Student Ambassadors also help share the story of Overton ISD. By amplifying student voices on social media, Ambassadors increase engagement, showcase the great things happening in our schools, and provide authentic, peer-to-peer perspectives that resonate with students and families.
Working with the District’s Communications team, each Student Ambassador will contribute to the district’s online presence by submitting or reposting/sharing at least:
One spirit or athletics post per year
One campus-based post per year
One district-wide post per year
This approach gives Ambassadors a meaningful role in shaping the district’s public image while developing their own communication and leadership skills.
