Larry Calhoun
Mr. Larry Calhoun serves as Superintendent of Overton ISD, bringing a wealth of experience in education, business, and leadership. He began his career in education in 2002 and has since held a variety of roles including Classroom Teacher, Head and Assistant Coach, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Fine and Applied Arts Department Chair, Director of Career and Technical Education, and Superintendent.
Mr. Calhoun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Management Information Systems from Abilene Christian University (1986), and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University (2010).
Before entering education, Mr. Calhoun worked in the information technology industry with companies such as DuPont, Mobil, and IBM. In 1994, he founded APEX Consulting Group, Inc., where he served as director and CEO until 2003, when he transitioned fully into public education.
A proud product of small-town values, Mr. Calhoun grew up in Maysville, Oklahoma, graduating with just 35 classmates in 1981. He met his wife, Kathy, while attending Abilene Christian University, and the two were married in December 1983. They have two adult children—Cooper, a Baylor University graduate, and Kendra, a graduate of Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Law School—as well as four cherished granddaughters: Brooklynne, Piper, Tessa, and Charlotte.
Deeply involved in his community, Mr. Calhoun is an active member of Shiloh Road Church of Christ, where he participates in various ministries and teaches adult Bible classes. He is also a member of the Overton Rotary Club, the Overton Heritage Foundation, and Friends of McMillan Library.
Outside of his professional duties, Mr. Calhoun enjoys singing with the Pickin & Grinnin group, golfing, reading, and supporting All Mustang extracurricular programs. He is a proud fan of Mustang athletics, fine arts, and student organizations.
A lifelong believer in character and commitment, Mr. Calhoun is guided by two favorite sayings: “Today I shall behave, as if this is the day by which I will be remembered.” – Dr. Seuss, AND “It’s a Great Day to be a Mustang!”
As Superintendent, Mr. Calhoun is focused on the continued growth and success of Overton ISD through the following strategic goals. These goals are aligned with the district goals for student outcomes and adult priorities set by the Overton ISD board of trustees.
