Updated COVID Quarantine Protocols - Jan. 14 2022

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath issued the following clarification concerning quarantines for Covid positive students and employees.

OISD will allow students who tested positive last week to continue with the quarantine given to them at the time (5/5), but beginning Tuesday we will have to go back to the 10 day quarantine for students. Employees are still under the 5/5 rule according to TEA.

Below is the TEA policy directly from their Health Guidance tab:

Coronavirus disease 2019 commonly referred to as COVID-19 is a disease requiring exclusion from school under 25 Tex. Admin. Code § 97.7.
A school administrator shall exclude from attendance any child having or suspected of having COVID-19. Exclusion shall continue until the readmission criteria for the conditions are met. The readmission criteria for COVID-19 is as follows:
If symptomatic, exclude until at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever free*, and other symptoms have improved. Children who test positive for COVID-19 but do not have any symptoms must stay home until at least 10 days after the day they were tested.
*Fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications. Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit (37.8° Celsius) or higher.

Similar to students, school systems must exclude staff from attending school in person who are actively sick with COVID-19, who are suspected of being actively sick with COVID-19, or who have received a positive test result for COVID-19.
Based on recent updates from the CDC, staff may return when:
• If symptomatic, at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever free*, and other symptoms have improved.
• For those with no symptoms, at least 5 days after the day they tested positive.
*Fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications. Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit (37.8° Celsius) or higher.
